Back in the early 1970’s, Ken had a problem. Newly married and starting a new job, his wife asked if her 16 year old brother could come and live with them for the summer.
As Ken looked to see what he and his new brother-in-law could do together over the summer, Ken looked into Scuba Diving. After checking out the local dive shops, they signed up to get certified. Well, that 8 week summer training session led to a lifelong love of diving for Ken.
Several years later, Ken and Dave met and became friends while working for the same company.
Dave would listen patiently as Ken regaled about diving locations and experiences he had had over the years. Dave enjoyed listening, but never seemed interested in learning to dive himself, until he found himself in Australia on business, with a few days to rest and relax.
Dave had heard Ken talk about the great dive sites in the world, and the Great Barrier Reef, he knew, was high on the list. It wasn’t hard for Dave to find an introduction to diving course that showed him the basic techniques and equipment fundamentals. One intro dive turned into a live aboard trip to the Coral Sea, and Dave was hooked.
From Australia, Dave emailed Ken to start looking around for equipment he could buy when he got back into the states, and Ken and Dave have been dive buddies ever since.
Since they both traveled a lot for business, if they found themselves working near a good diving spot, they always tried to make some time to “get wet”. In the process, dives were made all over the world.
The mutual love of diving, and the natural comradery of divers “swapping tales” led to the formation of US Dive Mart. A store open 24 hours a day, where customers can find the equipment they need, in a fast, easy and affordable way.
